How to Choose the best Saddle for Your Needs

Your saddle shouldn’t just make sitting on your bike comfortable, it should make riding in the position you prefer to ride in easier.

Usage

Although the material is important – of course, a gel saddle will be more comfortable than a foam one – it’s the position of the saddle that makes the biggest difference.

For a 90° position (straight back, a position often seen around town)

Go for a very wide saddle (XL). This distributes your weight over a larger surface area so that the pressure points are less pronounced.

For a 60° position (a halfway position, for hybrid bikes)

Plenty of room on and around the saddle is best. Choose a wide saddle (L).

For a 30° position (common in racing)

Too wide a saddle can cause rubbing and make sitting down uncomfortable, so opt for a medium saddle. If you’re in a 30° position it’ll help distribute your weight between the handlebars and it.

For Kids

Mini cyclists should always go for a size S saddle. There’s plenty of time to figure out how they like to ride and the best saddle for them as they grow.
